Randwick Public School participates in a range of academic competitions, such as ICAS, Number Crunchers, Maths Olympiad and Mind Marathon, which provide students with an opportunity to measure their abilities against those in other schools in the area and across Australia.


ICAS is an independent, skills-based competition which recognises and rewards student achievement.  The papers are rigorous and independent of what students learn in school. ​ICAS assesses higher order thinking and problem solving skills needed for success in all subjects. All students in Years 3 to 6 are encouraged to participate in the English and Mathematics papers.  Students in Year 2 also have the opportunity to take part in these exams if they wish. Additionally, the Spelling, Writing and Science papers are offered to students in Years 3 to 6.

Randwick Public School is proud to have many students achieve highly in ICAS, receiving many High Distinctions, represent the top 1% of all participants, and Distinctions, representing the top 10% of all participants, each year in all subjects.  Our students have also been awarded medals in Science (2017) and Mathematics (2016), representing the top score in New South Wales.

Number Crunchers

Number Crunchers is an exciting and challenging mathematics competition for Year 6 students. Students participating in Number Crunchers enjoy the challenge and thrill of performing mental mathematics to an audience, performing stunning feats of memory in reciting Pi to hundreds of decimal places and completing jumbled Rubik’s cubes in lightning fast times.

APSMO Maths Olympiad

The APSMO Maths Olympiad is a competition for highly achieving Year 4, 5 and 6 students from around Australia and New Zealand. It is aimed at challenging participants’ problem solving abilities. In each competition students are given 5 questions, which must completed in a specified time-frame of around 20-30 minutes.

Mind Marathon

Mind Marathon is a day of academic rigour involving challenges in English, History, Mathematics, Science, Engineering and General Knowledge for selected students. Selected Stage 3 students compete in teams of 6 against over 30 other schools in the area.
