Getting to and from school safely
Student safety is our highest priority. As a parent or carer, it is your responsibility to ensure your child gets to and from school safely. By working together, we can keep our school community safe.
General safety tips
- driving and parking safely, even if it means parking futher away and walking the rest of the way to school
- Be a good role model for your child.
- Never call your child from across the road.
- Always use the safest place to cross.
For parents and carers of younger children
Talk with your child about how to stay safe when:
- walking to and from school
- travelling in the car
- waiting for, travelling on, and getting off the bus
- riding bikes, scooters and skateboards.
It’s also important to practise:
- safe travel routes
- what to do when something unexpected happens
- plans for wet weather.
Catching public transport
Public transport is a safe and reliable way for many students to travel to and from school. Remind your child to:
- practise their travel route with you first
- hold your hand when crossing the road (for younger children)
- stand a few steps back from the road edge while waiting
- follow safety rules when catching the bus or train.
